Our Impact in 2024: Fighting Food Waste, Expanding Access, and Building a Better Grocery System

Every Earth Month, there’s a lot of buzz around sustainability. But for us? It’s baked into everything we do—all year long. In 2024, Misfits Market continued doing what we do best: rescuing food, shaking up the grocery status quo, and making it easier for people to shop better for themselves and the planet.

This past year was our most impactful yet. And it’s all thanks to the customers, partners, and growers who believe in a better way to feed people.

A Better Food System, One Grocery Order at a Time

The traditional food system is still broken—and we’re not afraid to say it. Big grocery stores often prioritize appearances and profits over transparency, sustainability, and flavor. That leads to food waste, bland options, and a lack of accountability.

We’re building a grocery store that does the opposite. One that’s:

  • Less wasteful: We rescued an average of 500,000 pounds of food every week
  • More sustainable: We source from farms that prioritize organic, regenerative, and climate-conscious practices
  • Healthier & tastier: We focus on whole ingredients, less-processed options, and produce that’s bred for flavor—not shelf life

By the Numbers: 2024 at a Glance

Thanks to our rescue buys, private label innovation, and lean operations, we saved:

  • 28,486,547 pounds of food from going to waste
  • 16,484,355 pounds of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere
  • 938,324,386 gallons of water from being wasted

That’s enough to:

  • Power over 1,000 homes for a year
  • Fill more than 1,400 Olympic-sized swimming pools
  • Bring our total food saved since 2018 to over 238 million pounds

Our Store Grew—A Lot

We expanded our assortment by 50%, launching exciting new categories like vitamins and supplements, while continuing to spotlight emerging brands and better-for-you pantry staples.

We introduced more fresh meat and produce, added dozens of new Odds & Ends products, and launched exclusive partnerships with mission-driven brands. A few fan favorites:

Innovation That Makes an Impact

2024 was a year of big ideas—and big change.

  • Misfits+: Our first-ever membership program helped customers save more while supporting food rescue efforts through a partnership with Feeding America®.
  • Fulfilled by Misfits: We launched our own perishable fulfillment platform to help mission-aligned DTC brands scale faster and more sustainably.
  • Misfits Market Rx: We launched a new initiative to deliver nutritious, medically tailored groceries to people who need them most—addressing food access and health equity at scale.

We’re Just Getting Started

Misfits Market was founded on the belief that good food shouldn’t go to waste—and that everyone deserves access to sustainable, high-quality groceries. In 2024, we saved more food than ever before, partnered with more farmers and mission-driven brands, and reached more households across the country.

And in 2025? We’re just getting warmed up.
