Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes

  • Author: Misfits Market

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1¼ cups plain whole-fat yogurt
  • Neutral oil like vegetable or canola for frying

For the Cinnamon-Cardamom Sugar

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom

For a Glaze

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (for chocolate glaze)

Instructions

  1. For the flavoring, combine sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom in a large shallow bowl and mix to combine. If making glazed donuts, whisk all the ingredients until it resembles the texture of thick cream, adding more milk as necessary. Set aside.
  2. For the dough, combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl and whisk to combine. Add yogurt to the mix and fold until smooth with a rubber spatula. Transfer dough into a piping bag fitted with a 1-inch piping tip, or cut a 1-inch hole at the tip of the bag.
  3. Heat enough oil to fill a large, tall-sided pan halfway. Once the oil is simmering, carefully pipe 1½-inch pieces of dough into the oil, cutting with kitchen scissors.
  4. In batches, fry the donuts for 2 to 3 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they float, have puffed up, and are golden brown.
  5. Using a mesh strainer, remove donuts and place directly into cinnamon-cardamom sugar. Fully coat donuts in the sugar mixture and serve immediately.
  6. If making glazed donuts, place donuts on a wire rack and pour glaze over top until evenly coated.
