Hi, Maura! We partner with hand-picked farms and food hubs across the Americas and occasionally beyond, depending on seasonality (see the full list of what we’re rescuing now) to source certified-organic fresh produce for our boxes. We offer fresh organic produce (e.g., citrus and avocados) sourced outside the U.S. to give you a variety of options to complete your weekly grocery shopping. Our goal is to fight food waste wherever we see inefficiencies in the food system.
We also source cooking supplies, pantry staples, and all of the items you’d find in a grocery store in a similarly sustainable way. We work with food brands to take in excess inventory—ranging from surplus to out-of-date packaging to short-dated items. (Short-dated means goods stamped with a “best-by” date that’s fewer than 6 weeks out.)
For meats and seafood, we have strict sourcing standards and partners who are transparent about their methods to ensure that you can feel good about what goes into the production of the high-quality meats and seafood we carry. We’ve also hand-picked suppliers that have found innovative ways to minimize environmental impact by avoiding industrialized farming while still making high-quality products that are affordable.
