What Are Mystery Root Veggies?
Our Mystery Root Veggies are a rotating selection of seasonal roots—bold, colorful, cool-weather gems that thrive underground and bring big flavor to your winter cooking. Depending on what our partner farms are harvesting and what needs a home, you could receive purple daikon, watermelon radish, celery root, purple top turnips, or other specialty roots.
Because this program helps us support farmers and reduce waste, you’ll receive one variety per order, chosen based on what’s at peak freshness and ready to ship. It’s part surprise, part culinary adventure, and all delicious.
Root Veggies You Might Receive
Purple Daikon
Mild, peppery, and beautifully purple from skin to center, daikon brings crunch and color to everything it touches. Slice thin for salads, quick-pickle for extra zing, or roast for deeper, sweeter flavor.
Watermelon Radish
Green on the outside and hot-pink inside, it’s mild, crisp, and slightly sweet with a subtle radish bite. Shave into salads, snack with butter and salt, or add to bowls for instant color.
Celery Root
Knobbly on the outside but silky, nutty, and aromatic inside with a gentle celery flavor. Purée into soups, shave into slaws, or mash for a rich, earthy side.
Purple Top Turnips
